Case Reports of Organic Solvent Intoxications in Korea

Abstract
Organic solvent(s) is widely used in the industries. Reported cases of organic solvent(s) intoxications in Korea from journals are briefly reviewed in this article.
Carbon disulfide intoxications were the most notorious solvent not only in the view point of number of cases and also in toxicity. Considering the increasing number of toluene diisocyanate(TDI) induced occupational asthma recently, appropriate preventive measures on this are needed. Case report of chronic benzene poisoning was not found. It may be attributable to the serious hematopoietic disorders and strict legal regulations on the productions and uses of benzene. Two cases of mixed organic solvents intoxications were reported. Epidemiologic studies on general health effects of mixed solvents have been reported and interests on neurobehavioral effects of organic solvent(s) have been increased, recently. Because of the non-specific symptoms and signs of them further studies on the effects of organic solvents are required in the future.
